Tree 1 (sat am) was tall, slender and naturalistic. Movement was refined foliage reduced and the result was a very aged appearance.
Tree 3 (sat pm sun am) was deliberately given a more Japanese type of style (some might suggest sumo), emphasis on how styling of similar species can take a completely different course depending on the material.
For me the diversity of approaches is important, there is not a right way or a wrong way but the opportunity to see both is priceless. We go home with freedom to choose our own direction in what material we decide to work with.

Funny thing about the wiring that Ryan and Hugh did, late on Sunday afternoon Ryan was holding a bit of a Q & A, and asked how long the wire would be able to stay on the trees. (I suspect he was thinking 18months or so, which is what he does with his pines and junipers.....)

When told 6 - 8 weeks, he nearly choked. There are some things about growing Aussie natives that he still has a long way to go to learn....and his afternoon session gave him a good amount of answers on how quickly the trees can grow, in all parts of Oz.

Thanks everybody for sharing the photos, these threads are always a highlight for me as I don't get to see any Aussie trees as bonsai in person so I always look forward to seeing the great trees on display. One day I'll get there in person.

The second tree Ryan worked on. More to come when I get some time. Very glad I made the effort to brave southern states. Thanks to all the volunteers at the VNBC.
