SA Bonsai Society Member's Olive Dig Sunday 23 August
Members of the SA Bonsai Society are meeting opposite the One Tree Hill General Store on Sunday 23 August at 9.45am for a members only olive dig on private property. If you are not a member of the SA Bonsai Society and would like to participate in the dig then we will be accepting memberships on the day. There will be a range of olives available for digging ... from small sheep and kangaroo nibbled olives through to some real big monsters! Bring your mattock, crowbar, spade, saw, secateurs ... and brawn. Will be a lot of fun. Experienced members will be on hand to advise on what to look for in collecting raw material. A lot of fun and sure to be some terrific olives on a site we have not dug for about 3 years.

Not a problem, but you might spend more time sharpening it then getting the olives out! It proved a popular method last year at the AABC Post Convention Dig with the visitors from the Eastern States!

We had terrific weather for our second club dig of the season. Unlike our previous dig at Brownhill Creek (where it rained as it had done so after the 2008 AABC Conference in Adelaide), the sun was shining and the breeze helped to dry off the overnight dew.
About 30 of us met for the short convoy to the property where olives of all sizes were dug. Smaller olives with lovely bases developed underground were easy lifting, others enlisted the help of Paul with his chainsaw ... thanks Paul and welcome to the SA Bonsai Society!
Some people did take photos ... perhaps they might like to share them with others on the Ausbonsai site!
A very successful day ... good to see so many people turn out and work together.

Hi folks, I have some pics of the Olive dig, the location was One Tree Hill about 15 mins from the suburbs of Adelaide, a place completely overun with feral Olives in amongst the Gum trees.

And finally, going to work on a big old olive with the trusty chainsaw.
