The Hastings Bonsai Group 2015 Exhibition

Post by Jdceng »

Exhibition Features:

Bonsai trees, Samurai swords, Japanese tea ceremony, Geisha girl paintings and kimonos are just some of the things that are on offer this weekend.

The Hastings Bonsai Group will be holding their 2nd annual 3 day bonsai exhibition at the Port Panthers auditorium from 9:30pm to 5:00pm this Friday and Saturday, and 9.30am till 3pm on Sunday.

Over 100 beautiful trees will be on display. The age of trees will range from a couple of years for those being displayed by members just starting out in bonsai, and up to 70 years old belonging to members who have been practicing bonsai for more than 30 years. You will see traditional trees, trees growing on rock, and landscapes. The size of bonsai can vary from those that can be held in the hand, but they can also be so big that they require a number of people to lift them.

This year, the Port Macquarie - Hastings Council is celebrating 25 years of friendship with our sister city, Handa, in Japan, and this bonsai exhibition will be a part of the celebrations.

On Saturday afternoon, after the official opening by the Mayor, Peter Besseling, there will be a performance of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony starting at 2:00pm by a group of Japanese ladies from Newcastle - maybe a first for Port Macquarie!

During our 3 day show, Ray and Clinton Nesci from Sydney, also Khanh Linh will be at the exhibition carrying out morning and afternoon bonsai demonstrations for the public on how to start out in bonsai.
Ray and Clinton own a well established bonsai nursery, and will have a trade stand selling everything that you need for bonsai. This includes pre-bonsai and advanced bonsai trees.

Carol Felton, a well known artist from Newcastle will hold a display, and her paintings of Japanese Geisha will be for sale.

We are asking the public to take part by voting for their favourite tree at the show, and there is a prize of a $50 Bunnings gift voucher for the winning name drawn.

Young children will also have something to do; we are running a competition where they have to try to find the crocodiles incorporated in a bonsai. All correct entrants will have a chance to win a $50 toy voucher.

We are raising funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

The exhibition will have something for everyone this weekend.
