I was at Bonsai Art last Friday and can say the Satsuki in flower are amazing.
Trevors display trees and sales trees are all flowering and he said with this week being cooler they would stay in flower for the Exhibition weekend.
Lots of newer varieties in flower as well for sale, not just Rukizon and Osakazuki, etc that we always see.
Looking forward to seeing member trees also down there.

I agree, it will be an exhibition worth seeing.

have a look at the Azalea Interest Group Facebook site, Trevor, the owner of Bonsai Art Nursery, has done a demonstration for the Yarra Valley Bonsai Society and you can see some of the Azalea he has for sale - it's only a small selection but should give you an idea. might have to scroll down a bit to see it https://www.facebook.com/groups/753871068074376/

He has also posted the varieties he has on the Bonsai Art Nursery FB https://www.facebook.com/Bonsai-Art-Nur ... 8/?fref=ts

Enjoy, it's amazing

Can one of the azalea afficionados please try to explain the differences between satsuki and other azaleas so us plebs can understand please. Everyone uses the terms but no-one has been able to explain them to me.
How do I know if I am looking at a satsuki, kurume indica or other?

As far as I can work out from asking just about anyone I can find and have added most to the wiki here
https://www.ausbonsai.com.au/wiki/index.php?title=Azalea

Satsuki is a late flowering variety, ( i believe it means 5th month) ie May in the northern hemisphere.

Kurume are evergreen azaleas with considerable cold hardiness and were introduced from Japan. Kurume azalea plants thrive in the cooller areas and climates. Smaller shrubs grow small waxy leaves and are considered to be dwarf azalea plants, growing 4 feet tall

Azalea indica is originally found on the Indian / Asian continent in the warmer areas and as such as less cold hardy then the Satsuki or Kurume varieties.
These Azaleas are spring blooming and the foliage is evergreen.

If anyone has more info them please post either here or in the WIKI
