Friday nights demo is a great event, You can get close up personal to see what is being done.
Brilliant idea for a demo Leigh
the demo was a Leptospermum collected about 3 years ago by David and was very healthy.

Re: Bonsai Week 2017 at the NBPCA
I had a great time at this event and I am hopeful that it will continue in the coming years. It is a very well thought out event, with the NBPCA giving back to the bonsai community, so in that regard it is worth its weight in gold.
A great new addition this year was the exhibition of the Australian made bonsai pots, just fantastic, and I hope that this will be a feature again next year. I took a few photos but unfortunately I have not had time to organise them yet, but I will soon.

Re: Bonsai Week 2017 at the NBPCA
Thanks for the photos Ken and thanks to Leigh for organising such a great event. Tony was an entertaining presenter, quick with a joke and never short of a story, plus a great eye for design. I was lucky enough to get bailed up by him during a break between events and corralled to the nearest pub for a quick pint.
The collection was looking spectacular, particularly under lights in the evening. Pat did a great job of organising the pottery display and the aussie potters did us proud. I wasn't able to get a tree for the workshops but I spent all of Saturday observing Tony and a fine bunch of bonsai people with a nice selection of material being worked on, and it was really hard to tear myself away in the afternoon to get back to the airport. My notebook is full of new ideas and techniques.
What more could you ask for? I look forward to next year.
Matt.

And kudos for whoever conceived the set up on those clear Perspex stands. What a slick way to display them.

Re: Bonsai Week 2017 at the NBPCA
What a week we had in Canberra. Fifteen potters came to the party and the result was fantastic. We had a constant stream of visitors through, both bonsai enthusiasts and those folk just visiting the Arboretum...and all were enthusiastic with their praise of the talent on show.
There were just too many pots to take a photo of each so I've limited it to one pot from each potter. These are the pots that caught m eye.
Cheers,
Pat

Pat - all us bonsai tragic's owe you a great deal for putting on the pot show in conjunction with Bonsai Week. And your photography is better than mine, and with the potters names, thanks again.

Re: Bonsai Week 2017 at the NBPCA
Thanks Watto....it was a lot of fun and I got to know some interesting folk. For instance, I spent the week with someone who can talk without ever seeming to take a breath (but I did enjoy the performance); I renewed friendships with a couple of potters who can and will leave many of us wallowing in their wake, and, I learned that there is a downside for people who prejudge others' talents.
All in all, a great week,
Pat

What can I say, what a great bunch of guys and girls who attended the workshops, who gave me lots of work, who attended the gala evening and my afternoon lecture. I had an amazing time with you all. Kudos to Leigh for making it happen, and to all the helpers at the arboretum.
Thanks to the wonderful people that looked after me Peter and Margaret for putting me up during my Canberra sojourn, and to David Segal for all the driving and bed for the nights in Sydney.
Cannot wait for my next foray into the bad lands of . PLEASE get me back soon!

Bonsai is not a matter of life and death...it's way more important that that!

Re: Bonsai Week 2017 at the NBPCA
Kudos to Pat Kennedy for his idea of a Bonsai Pot Exhibition and for implementing it and organizing it. That was such a lot of work for you, Pat and I, for one, certainly appreciate it. This gave us potters a great opportunity to show the public our work. From what I've seen of the photos posted, there was a great variety of pots on show. Well done to those who were able to participate. Congratulations on a monumental task so well done Pat (in spite of one or two little hiccups ).
When's the next one?
