I am going with 2 friends; one from Canberra and one from Sydney. We are going about 10'days early and doing a grand tour before the Convention.
We then meet up with a Western Australian in Asakusa, head to Nagano and back, then meeting up with 4 more for a trip out to a public bonsai collection in the west of Tokyo.

No time to be lonely or bored either. I know a few more who are also going from Canberra but was just wondering who else is going.

I am even studying Japanese to make the trip easier.

When we were in Omiya last week we came across these signs promoting the bonsai convention and the bonsai village. Love to be going back to the convention, but we have other commitments .

I had really hoped to be going but with my sons illness, everything has been up in the air and I think I may have left it a bit late. Lynette

How do you find it as a language to learn Grant, any stumbling blocks you have hit yet?

I am going . I enjoyed the very first one they had up there when they still called the city OMIYA as well as the Bonsai village of that name.
That one was so amazing where I first saw Mr Kimura and met so many other Bonsai personalities and was entertained and
feasted . I felt it imperative to return to the Saitama Bonsai Convention 2017 as it was sparked by the World Bonsai Friendship Federation that in turn saw the start of the Bonsai Federation of Australia which is divided into Nth. and Sth.
...And we would not like Grant to be lonely

Sorry I missed this post.

It is a very difficult but very interesting language. I have mastered the two syllabaries(alphabets) but the Kanji(Chinese characters) will, allways be a stumbling block. Speaking is slow but will get better.

Next week I hope to get a chance to put into practice what I have learnt, and also hope to return in November this year and again in February next year with Shuji's tour to Kokufuten.

There are at least 12 from WA going, and some partners too. I suggest you take some Aussie flags. There are over 1200 delegates so largest convention I have ever attended.
I do not speak Japanese and have had no trouble getting around on previous trips

I started learning the Japanese language to be polite but found it to be very interesting and I intend to carry on with it.

Later in the year if my wife and I go we will be in some more remote areas and the language will certainly be useful.

I have heard the convention is going to be huge and I am looking forward to it.
