2017 Canberra Bonsai Society Annual Show

Post by JenniferM »

The CBS Annual Show is on next weekend 7-8 October (by then we should all have adjusted to daylight saving!)

We will be in a new venue.... The gym at University of Canberra High School Kaleen on Baldwin Drive, Kaleen.

It's a much bigger space, which will be good for both the display area and the sales area - both Shibui and Bonsai World will have a larger area - more plants for sale?

All our vendors from last year will be back - Shibui, Bonsai World and local grower Michael S with mostly plants, and Grant, Graham and Marg with mostly pots.

The trees being registered are interesting, a number of forests, including a large (1.3m long) Zelkova group by one of the early members of CBS, some very large trees, and lots of conifers! The species may be the result of the winter we've had :(

We're looking forward to seeing bonsai people from Bathurst and Newcastle who are making a weekend of it. Hope to see other interstate visitors.

Full details are on the CBS website... http://www.cbs.org.au

Yes - it certainly will be Lisa :tu:

We have had great registrations. With more members entering trees than we've had for some time, and more trees. So it's all looking good. There will be some LARGE settings as well as the usual array. Lots of species. Given the winter we've had it was probably to be expected that there'll be lots of conifers... They love this weather... But there are a wide range of species and styles.

There'll also be our usual demos at 11 and 2 each day, and the bonsai basics sessions at 10 and 1 each day.

And LOTS of sales.

Hope to see some AusBonsai friends there... Only 3 sleeps to go

This morning the 2017 CBS Annual Show opened its doors to the public. Well, it became a very busy morning indeed! Thanks for your visit, Newcastle bonsai lovers, and I heard Goulburn was coming too. Anyway, the club sales table did a roaring trade, and Ashleigh and Shibui had great trees too. And then there were 2 potters with great pots, plus Grant who had beaut pots (I bought two, they are irresistible) and lots of tools, wire, etc. But of course the bonsai exhibition was the centre of attraction.
Before I pass on to the photos I took, I have to say that Shannon Young, who was responsible for the organisation of this year's Show, ably assisted by Jennifer and John L., did a great job. I trust tonight and tomorrow will be as successful as today was.
Here are some photos I took:

It was melaleuca ericifolia . The photo labeled banksia is actually I think a Scott's pine , the Banksia that Lisa is talking about is a very impressive tree . The zelkova group was big ,4 man lift it had amazing lime green leaves . Great show !

Thanks, everyone.
Love the "eyegasm" !!!
Two more photos, these are of Graham Cooper and his display. I bought a lovely pot from him - will photograph it and post it here.
Graham told me that the pots shown here represent 6 months' work!
