Myrtleford Ag show

Post by shibui »

It is that time of year again - Late October and Myrtleford Show tomorrow which also means the annual grudge match - Alpine Art V Shibui Bonsai.

Ian has assembled the show benches so all is in readiness for tomorrow morning.
We have 6 categories to compete in - Single trunk, Group or multi trunk, Cascade or semi cascade, Bonsai in flower, Native and under 25cm.

Last year the show was a month late and Alpine took home more than his fair share of awards viewtopic.php?f=25&t=23268 but I'm feeling good about this year. As long as we don't get that same judge with the guide dog again :palm:

If you happen to be in the area drop in and say hi

Hi Shibui , mate my young bloke has quoted me with my favorite saying . If your going to do something give it 110 % or be it your best shot . I hate it when his right , but he has to listen to me most of the time .

I took my own advice and fixed up a couple more , cant have you winning against quote Mr Kneebone , "My Rubbish" so i doubled up on some more rubbish that gives me twice as many chances of a possible prize

The old saying "dont put the foot work in , dont expect a good result" certainly rings true for me .

Hope your feeling a bit better tomorrow .

Cheers Alpine

Timings?
It is just a one day event. The judges normally take a couple of hours to award all the places in the horticulture section so that section will be open somewhere around 10:30 or 11am. I'll be collecting all the prize cards  around 4pm when it closes.

Introduce yourself :gday: if you get there

Its a hidden gem in N.E Victoria , not too many tourists spoil the tranquility and Its the best place in the country to see the largest Bonsai displayed in a Horticultural Show anywhere in this wide brown land of ours :aussie: . Hence the reason my rubbish is entered or in a display as works in progress :o

The display is something we are improving every year and with a new pavilion on the cards things can only get better :fc: .

Mr Shibui , I might bring bear along his a good judge or maybe he could guide the judge around , no need to put a kibble under the pots he knows which plants he pee's on .

:D Alpine,
Having problems seeing any "rubbish" at all, (they must be the ones under the tables)
All look very impressive.
If there is only one plant listed in any one of the show categories, does that mean it will become an automatic prize winner by default? I think I can only see one flowering bonsai - the lovely white bougy??
Game on - May the best man [plant] win!!

There were actually 3 flowering trees on offer but the judge also only saw the bougie :palm: then noticed the hawthorn next to it also had flowers and gave it a 2nd. The smaller Kunzea hidden in the corner next to the bougie did not stand a chance.
Alpine/ Shibui level pegging on all categories until we got down to the shohin trees where our judge finally saw real quality and awarded both first and second to the shibui stables :hooray:

Mt Alpine (above) would easily have taken the peoples choice today. Almost everyone who went past made comment on this one. Half of them just could not resist touching the roots to check that it was real.

Hi Shibui , mate thanks for another quality challenge . Pity the judges this year cut their teeth on our material :palm: I have never had to explain to a judge how to choose 1 tree over another  but that horticultural shows .

All in all it was a good day out even though I didnt get any more clear pics .

"The Dragon" didn't get wired but I did managed to trim it  .

Again plenty of interest and well earned compliments from both the public and show members on all the Bonsai and { my rubbish } which is what the exercise is all about . Promoting bonsai in the general public arena can and does have its benefits all round .

Congrats and Good Luck with next weeks Albury show , hope you get a challenge or two from other club members , sorry I cant be there .

Cheers . Alpineart
