Hi Everyone

We are now in our last week for bookings to the Penjing Conference.
A great opportunity to see 9 of the world’s best bonsai and penjing artists.

There are still a few master-class spots available. Even if you didn’t come to the conference, the opportunity to work with one of these masters should not be missed.
To have access to these masters for just over $20 an hour really is exceptional value. Or an observer spot for just $10 an hour.

There is also the NBPCA 10th Anniversary celebrations at the Gala Dinner.

For more information, visit our website:

http://www.nationalarboretum.act.gov.au ... conference

and to make bookings at Sticky Tickets: http://tix.yt/penjing

Hi Everyone

Bookings have closed for the conference component of this event.
We still have some participant and observer spots available for the master-classes.
We will leave master-class bookings open until they sell out.

This is a great opportunity to take advantage of the Master's being in Australia.

The observer passes get you access to 3 of the master-classes either in the morning or afternoon.

Send me a message if you have any queries.

Regards
Leigh

That last photo with the Mel just off-centre to the right is my favourite (exposed roots and leaning trunk). Beautiful!

I've heard nothing but excellent comments from attendees to the conference, so congrats to all concerned, and I'm really bummed I wasn't able to make it.

I had an awesome time. Caught up with old friends, made new ones and got to experience an amazing cultural exchange.

I attended workshops during the event and took along a Lilly Pilly, Syzygium smith var. minor, to one of them. I have been growing it for over 5 years and at one stage thought of air layering above the roots because I thought they were ugly. About 2 years ago I decided that if I did that I would have another ordinary tree and the roots were where this tree had its character. So I decided to work with them and put a lot of movement into all the branches to create a wind swept style. I chose Juan Llaga to worship this tree with as it fitted his style and I liked the ideas of Bonsai being an artistic expression as well.

So the tree before the workshop

After the worshop

And its temporary residence.
IMG_3099.jpg
I have made adjustments to the branches and added more moss and lichen since the photo was taken and will fine tune the rocks and the display over time. I want a stand that can hold the tree with its rocks/pot and hold the other rock separately, both floating in the air. A composition that has a lot of suggestion and allow for the imagination to finish the picture.

Thank you to the Arboretum, The national collection, all the staff, especially Leigh and Sam, and all the international masters. The masters shared openly and generously and I would recommend anyone to attend an event like this when the opportunity comes again.

Gee, that is some transformation! I was there and we chatted, but I left a bit before midday, so did not see the end product. When I first saw your tree and you said that you wanted to make a windswept out of it, I was really sceptical, but it sure worked out perfectly! It is a really beautiful and evocative tree. Congratulations.

I love Juan's work, you chose well! What a fantastic result!

Hi Everyone

A Chinese representative has put together the following report.

You will have to use Google Translate to see the text in English. Be mindful that some things get a bit mixed up in translation.

Cheers
