We are nearly ready to announce our program for this inaugural penjing & art and culture event. Such an exciting event for our community. The program will be packed full of action, plus the opportunity to workshop with some of the world's best penjing artists. Stay tuned to this thread, hoping to make the big announcement next week. Who is excited?

Yes, I'm rather excited and I might see if I can get to he ACT for this.

I've noted in a seperate thread how I enjoy and am inspired by the book: Penjing: The Chinese Art of Bonsai: A Pictorial Exploration of Its History, Aesthetics, Styles and Preservation
by Zhao Qingquan.

I would love to see some fine examples in the flesh.

Now... I wonder if I can convince my father to come to the ACT with me, perhaps we'll drive together :fc:

Hi,

I note that this Conference will be co-hosted in conjunction with the "Penjing Leyuan Internet Forum".

Interested, I searched "Penjing Leyuan Internet Forum" in the Google-machine and could not see anything that looked like a forum. No drama, I was simply wondering what this forum was all about. Perhaps it's a Facebook thing - I am not on Facebook.

Anyway - any background would be appreciated.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark

Thanks for your interest. If you follow this url...http://www.penjingly.com/
You will land on the forum. It is all in Chinese, however when I visit the Google translate button comes up and it becomes easier to navigate.

Cheers

I was in the ACT recently and I was able to visit (very briefly) the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection. As I had meetings and presentations through the day - I was only able to spend a quick 25 or so minutes viewing the collection at lunch. What a wonderful collection and free too; a donation is appreciated and deserved, I think. A great service. :imo:

If I can make this conference, I will. My brief visit has only worked to whet my appetite to re-visit; to see and learn more. A call out to the volunteers (I think) that were there on the day too; helpful and informative. One told me a brief story related to the tree below - a mother, child and the Bonsai artist looking on with admiration. Yhat is the first picture below - others are provided for reference too. Just casual, quick shots from a phone but indicative nonetheless.

Cheers

Mark

It certainly looks GREAT, Leigh, and as I am very interested in Penjing, I'd love to participate. Could you tell me if, similar to AABC Symposia, there will be 1 day packages available, and whether their will be observer places for the masterclasses?

Hi Lisa

Thanks for your interest.

Yes, we will release observer spots for the masterclasses very soon. They will be limited by numbers, as are the participant spaces for the masterclasses. I will be sure to make another post here when we make them available.
We do not have a 1-day option for the conference. Both days are action packed and would be a shame to miss.

Cheers

Hi Everyone

We have been powering away, working on the preparation for this exciting event.
Now available are a number of other registration options to suit as many people as we can.

You are now able to register for just one day, or two days without the social functions.
We have also made the social functions available individually to accommodate spouses or partners.

We have also released the observer passes for the workshops.
As there will be 3 simultaneous workshops during the morning, and another 3 in the afternoon, the passes will have access to all 3 workshops within a session (ie. morning session, or alternately, the afternoon session).

Find the new packages here:

This conference showcases Australian culture, art and native trees in a stunning setting at the National Arboretum Canberra, home of the National Bonsai & Penjing Collection of Australia.

Australian culture features throughout the conference and traditional music, dance and welcome from an indigenous cultural group is a highlight of the gala dinner. See exhibitions dedicated to Australian native bonsai, Aboriginal art and bonsai digital art that merges reality and fantasy.

This is the first time that Penjing Masters have gathered in Australia, watch their skills and imagination being challenged as they style Australian native plants whilst being inspired by wide open spaces and new cultural experiences.
