Well the end of a fantastic day watching Ryan and Hugh. The 2 really pointed things I took away from Ryan - 1 Let the tree lead the dance when styling the tree and 2 Use the bonsai container as a control mechanism to slow down rampant natives. I was very sceptical of having an American come as lead artist in a native only conference but it has been thoroughly worthwhile. Don't ask me for photos - I shoot in RAW and have to go home to process them :palm: I did borrow a phone and Averil posted some on Bimer's Facebook Page.

A fantastic day. Catching up with so many people and listening to humble yet wonderfully knowledgeable folk like Ryan and Hugh. I’ve got a long’ish drive home now but the great memories and a strong dose of inspiration will ease the trip. More photos to follow but here is just one sample that I love.

+1 Mel - if in Melbourne, go to the exhibition if you can tomorrow. Great to meet you too. Here a few more photos - hard for a mobile phone to do justice but I am sure professional pics will follow.

I am not attending this great convention, but was lucky enough to get some photos taken by Ruth McL. I herewith forward some that MJL has not posted yet.

Wow that huon pine and the last casuarina - looks like Allo torulosa - are the standouts for me.
Lovely and natural.

It was a fabulous convention, and it was lovely to meet quite a few ausbonsai members, amongst others.

To those who thought an American wouldn't know how to deal with our Aussie natives, you really missed out, because Ryan, even though he admitted not knowing all about OUR plants, he was able to communicate so well as he was learning on the fly. With the help of Hugh Grant his Australian native knowledge has increased a hundred fold, and while he was able to take that info into his own brain, he was also able to explain his thought processes as to how he was going to use that extra info.

Kudos to the Victorian Native Bonsai Club for a great weekend. The exhibition was very exciting to view as well! Everything Aussie native, what a rush!

Great convention to the Victorian Native Bonsai club and Ryan was brilliant.

I did a walk through video of the exhibition and link is below:
