Awesome trees.
Can't believe I missed this.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

How good are our native trees!

How good are you guys working with our native trees!

I think many of the bonsai native pioneers are sitting back thinking 'how good are our native trees'!

I'm struggling with this equipment I have with me, and a very nasty lurgy which has laid me low, but here are the Sunday demo trees after Ryan had worked on them. I didn't get shots before, but I can tell you they were both very woolly and wild Kunzea trees

Holy crabsticks! Number 58, looks like a Mel in a PK dragon pot. That is stunning. I absolutely love that one.

I style Bonsai naturally, just as they would appear in the wild.

is 1270 a water gum? I saw a few excellent examples years ago at Cambewarra Bonsai when they were operating . wish I had got one at the time.

Thanks, Mel!! Hope you are feeling better. Nothing is more infuriating than getting sick just when an exceptional event occurs which one absolutely can'gt miss!

I have a rather strange habit of looking up from underneath bonsai. I am sure people wonder why I am on my knees at bonsai shows. I am not bowing down in reverence - rather I am looking at the structure/essence of the tree. I am not in search of ‘technical’ excellence per se - rather I am looking up at a tree canopy, from the base of the trunk. Much like I do when out walking. Why not do it with bonsai? I find this image/tree quite beautiful. It gives me a sense of age - I easily imagine sitting under it’s interesting trunks; it is commanding and elegant. One day I will have a tree or two like this.

Don't worry, I do this too ... I even take the occasional photo from underneath

I'm more looking at how people did things with the tree, how they structured the branches, dealt with cuts/chops, etc. Bit of a learning exercise for me

Having said that, there were a couple this weekend when I just peaked under the canopy and could imagine them full size and just wandering through the forest.

Hey MikeK,

Glad to know others do it too. The photo from underneath is what I was referring too.

PS - As an aside, AusBonsai is a rather good distraction while on the train going to work. Time flies reading various posts - thanks for helping me pass the time. :-)

That photo of the beach structure from underneath really captures the best of it. Sensational!
In the blue darkening sky, the moon paints a pine tree.
