Canberra Bonsai Society Annual Show - 8 & 9 October
Hi everyone
We’re still in the middle of winter in Canberra, with plenty more cold to come. But spring is not too far off, and we’re getting ready for the 2022 Annual Show which is being held at Canberra High School again this year on 8 and 9 October.
We’ll have an expanded display this year, and are including a number of Tokonoma displays. It’ll be exciting to see how people interpret the tradition of Tokonomas in Oz in 2022! Many will be traditional but there are likely to be a couple of innovative interpretations
The vendors this year will be
- Grant Bowie
- Bonsai World
- Hugh Grant
- Samarkand Pottery
- Daniel Leonie Pottery
- Shibui
And if you can’t find what you want from any of those, you might find it on the CBS members sales table. There will be something for everyone…..
Full details are on the CBS website - www.CBS.org.au - just follow the links in the homepage.
We’re look good forward to seeing everyone again, after having to cancel last year.
Hope to see lots of the ausbonsai community there.

Re: Canberra Bonsai Society Annual Show - 8 & 9 October
Less than 2 weeks to go! We’re not quite on daily countdown like Goulburn, but it’s getting close.
The tree registrations are coming in - we’re expecting 90 to 100
The vendors are gathering their stocks and members are sorting the items for the club sales table
And the demonstrators are deciding what they’ll be doing and getting their tools ready
All the making of a great weekend to follow on from the Goulburn clubs show this comin weekend. Treat yourself and do both!
Hope to see you here.

Less than 5 days to go
Tree registrations are closed - maybe….
Looks like we have 100 trees coming!!
It should be a great weekend. The weather doesn’t look great, but there is parking close by, so even if it does rain you shouldn’t get too wet.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Well, despite the not so interesting weather we are on our way to Canberra this morning. So looking forward to seeing your exhibition. Hear there are a number of ? Tokonome/Tokokonama? displays.(Will check for right word when I'm there). You know, the really proper set ups, with screens and room frames and all. If you can, please make the trip. It has always been a more than very worthwhile exhibition. and they sell great stuff too!

Still no photos from the locals. I guess they will all be recovering from the huge amount of work putting up and taking down.
Here are a few (poor quality) shots I took.

Does anyone have more pictures (detail, interior) of the overall best in show?
That tree looks absolutely gorgeous and I'd love to study it in more detail.

That's so beautiful and powerful. And to think that when I first started bonsai I didn't like conifers (because I had no idea they could look like this).
If the owner sees this post and would be open to chat about the tree (how long he's had it, what work he's done, any other story about the tree), please reach out. I'm keen to learn about the tree and what it's been through.

Hi all,
I have tried to post a picture but I am booted out when I try. The orientation of the Juniper is not the front I chose. It has been rotated 20deg to the right by someone else.

Don't ya hate that? Your photo size might be a little too large, I'm guessing. Looking forward to seeing the correct orientation!
