Choose a title which is followed by the Japanese flag image to see the .pdf of that text. Most of the 13 selected titles have drawings, paintings or photos of early how to, displays or compositions. (Also includes one 1902 French work.) Enjoy what some of the old teachers studied.

Fascinating!
Wonderful to see the diagrams of potting, grafting, air layering...I loved the use of guy wires and frames for bending.
The shapes of the trees, too, were an education.
They reminded me of this thread

There's a lovely natural quality to the plants in those old illustrations which current fashion seems in danger of losing...
