Interested to see the way he used Raffia under the wire.I assume to avoid wire marks?

Raffia is normally used to hold the tree together while it is bent. Helps prevent the trunk/branch splitting and even when it does crack, holds it all together while the tree heals up the cracks. Only needed with severe bending and/or brittle species.
Raffia is the traditional material for this but some have used bicycle inner tube, vet wrap, etc. Just needs to compress and contain the trunk while you make the bends.
