Semi cascade for the shape, and colour could contrast with the pot, or the lines within it.
a flaking bark tree with foliage that might match or contrast.

Possibly Buxus. Nice colour match to the trunk and crackly bark as well to pick up the texture

Yep that will look cool I reckon with the pot.
the ones I have are a more cream coloured bark though.
Here is a little semi of mine. I have posted other newer photos of it in a Black pot but cannot find them on my computer. :lost:

Riddle me this, Ken Poole -
Would a buxus survive my climate?

I must be honest, I don't see much of it up here...

PS: I like it! I also like the Rosemary and the Virginia creeper... I know Rosemary grows up here and I have seen some creepers here as well, not sure about the Buxus...

I imaging if you could keep the water up then yes. I imagine they are very hardy and they are used here for carpark garden edges and they are left to their own devices and seem to do well.
Our summer temps are high 30's for days on end here so maybe.

Got some Mel. Bracteata and saw this gorgeous 'dragon-like' semi cascade shadow in a book and wanted to combine the 2 for the above PK pot.
The dragon shadow had a very thick nebari and excellent taper (as artists drawing do so easily) so here goes nothing... And everything!

Just a virt for now and the dragons tail (semi cascade) needs to survive the new angle before I pull it out of the pot and root prune before resettling it in the pot.
Going slo this time, patience isn't my virtue, but I have plenty of red wine...
