How to hide those sprayer poles on your bench and more

Post by ace2weather »

I'm still decorating my bench which was built a few months ago. So far I've added Baby Bears around the base of the pillar with a vertical baby tears wall to be installed once the Baby Tears fill them.
I've also added a water feature on the side, nothing like running water....
And last, the the sprayer poles, I have 4 on every shelf that are around 30cm high and look unsightly with silver wire poles with black 5mm poly pipe. So, I decided to grow a plant on them and I decided to plant air plants on them, these are wired onto the pole and require no soil, just some water and misting every now and again. The back poles are decorated, just need more Air Plants for the first shelf poles.
As a added bonus, they even started flowering, but worst of all, I've got hooked on them and now starting a collection.....
So far I have about 5 different types including Spanish moss(Old Mans Beard). My next plan is to but a screening on the side of the bench with a hanging live air plant wall.......
Anyway, here are some of the photo's.....
Excuse the excess plant everywhere, They are projects or for sale plants, so not all bonsai's...............

Back shelf one, which has started to flower, once finished it should start growing pups(baby plants)

Same type of plant as the one above

and the other side.

This is where I plan on putting a Air plant screen using wood slates with the plants attached.

water feature with doggie proof fence, I was growing moss are the water feature until the dog got hungry, hence the fence now!!!

Baby tears in front of the pillars, the vertical Baby Tears will go on the bricks above the already growing Baby Tears

And finally lots of interesting things on happening on the bench and ground

Sorry about all the photo's, just sharing what I've been doing......

Don't forget continually messy, I've got a few bonsai's and far too many projects...
Plus Baby Tears and a few forms of moss. A lot of the plants on and around the bench are to sell which are making it look messy...
I did join a club a few months ago, which has been very helpful in moving forward with some of my projects....

Hello Chris,

How did you go with the Starweed?
Have you managed to totally eradicate it?

I wasn't aware of this weed until your earlier post, believing it to be just moss. I only had it in one pot which i completely removed and now two months later, almost daily i am removing tiny regrowths.
A very persistent little weed.

Also, i just noticed your Mycorrhizal Fungi post, i have recently began using it, although a different brand. The active fungi in my product are several Trichoderma spp. The positive improvement in my plants health has been very noticeable.

The star weed saga continues as it's popping up everywhere, i dare say the only way ot getting rid it, will be repotting!!!
As for the Mycorrhizal Fungi, I haven't started using it yet and won't until I repot.
I was going to try an experiment with it, but decided it would be a waste of the product and overall the bonsai's would benefit the most from using it..

Another little update with decorating the bench....
I've been working on a Baby Tear vertical wall for the last few months, well growing it....
I've already planted the Baby Tears in the 3 spots at the base in a shallow pot to make it look like it's growing on the pebbles and yes it's spreading over the pebbles.
Anyway, I constructed 3 tiles to hang above the already growing Baby Tears. These tiles were made up of(in version 1.0) shade cloth with gutter guard in the center with a mix of potting mix and coco fiber.
Version 2.0 was constructed with fly screen with sphagnum moss and coco fiber as version 1.0 was a bit heavy, both were stitched completely with fly screen and took and hour each to construct(zigzag stitching).
The Baby Tear has almost completely covered the tiles, So I hung, I have since taken them back down to allow the whole area to fill. I planted more plugs(small rooted cuttings) onto the tile to help fill.
So here are the photo's of what it looks like(with a crap mobile camera)
Image
All the tiles hung

Up close picture of the 2 tiles. Version 1.0 with green shade cloth and version 2.0 with the black fly screen.

Once this is all complete, I plan on adding some black Japanese symbols with bonsai meaning on the 4 brick facings.....

But that's another project......
