Bowl to pot.
Just on a whim I thought I'd start this here thread and possibly continue with either a few more of my pots or perhaps I'm not alone and someone else actually does this as well.
One of many re claimed, re built that I find out and about.
Although I do have a few high end pots I like grabbing pottery type bowls and giving the once over.
In a way feeding humans via a vessel designed to hold food is not that far away from a vessel that sustains and aids in feeding a tree.
All that's needed is a set of 'diamond encrusted' hole cutters.
Steve.

Thats great thanks Steve the masonary drill tended to catch and would sometimes put a hair line cack in the stoneware I like the idea of being able to use the cut outs for feet. I have a few chipped/cracked/broken pots that I dont use, can now use them for extra feet
Cheers

Re: Bowl to pot.
Best feet are really a clay tile, 'bathroom or floor' great as I have found that uniformity from the pot off cuts varies and wonky feet is the outcome.KIRKY wrote:Thats great thanks Steve the masonary drill tended to catch and would sometimes put a hair line cack in the stoneware I like the idea of being able to use the cut outs for feet. Wheel spun pots/bowls are more true in thickness for sure and you get the colour match as well although some of the harder glazes take a bit ti start.
Always have a spray bottle of water going as you can 'burn' the edge quickly.
Cut from outside if possible as that only chips the inside a little around the edges and if possible put a block inside so when the cutter goes through it travels a short distance through the pot.
I have smashed a few prototypes as the 'chuck' hits the pot.."Not any more since put a block inside".
A good balanced power drill does a great job.."NO HAMMER and slow to medium speed"

Great idea using the cutouts for feet.
One note, as a collector of Aussie pottery, make sure the vase/bowl/platter isn't worth more than a high-end bonsai pot before you drill. A friend had heaps including Campbell & Boyd pieces that would have been worth thousands in total if not drilled.

Only go for OP shop stuff but even there they may overlook such rare items.

Re: Bowl to pot.
Hi Steve,
I have made a few of these as well, I encourage others to have a go. I have trouble finding good bowls to start with, but You have got some rippers there. The 'glazed tray' would be great for a group planting.
Cheers,
Symon

Re: Bowl to pot.
Great looking pots mate.
Glad you posted it here because I wouldn't have thought about 'up-cycling' bowls to pots.
You know what I'll be doing this weekend
Cheers mate
