Re: New look grow beds and benches
Hi Bush bunny , the general make up of the soil here is shale and clay . When i purchased the property i terraced the entire block and over the next 10 years spread 25 tonnes of Pine bark and Euca mulch yearly just to get a good covering of compost . This was raked up and created the grow beds but i could still use 10 tonnes of quality decomposed manure to top dress everything .
Some of the mulch is water repellant which is no good for grow beds , but good for a life time supply of Myccorhizaefor the pines and cedars i grow .
Cheers Alpine

Well the hard yakka continues
Cheers . Alpineart
, this has been a major battle , I managed to break my old trailer and bend an axle on the new one i just built in my spare time , but at the end of the day I'm a happy chappy . Another few days , some running repairs on the trailer and it will be time to start planting the grow beds out . Cheers . Alpineart

Re: New look grow beds and benches
Hi Fella's , it will take some back filling but i will have double the growing area after completion to allow the tree's more root run . The top of the wall will double as a grow/display bench . Not looking forward to pointing up the face or the next set of steps but someone has to do it .

Re: New look grow beds and benches
Hi fredman , a before shot
Hi kc , mate it took 5 days to build my trailer using a ute tray and 3 seconds for the loader operator to bend the axle .I needed to carry the rock and conmix in something , so i had no choice .
Hi gumnuts , mate the sleeper edge lasted 20 years so this should go forever , in my time anyway .
A well earned break from laying rock .I prepared one of the area's ready for some digging of the crab apples A quick hack and chop , root prune and plant out Not one to slacken off , I re-arranged a few works in progress which needed this new home Tomorrow it's back to the rock work or maybe planting out some cherries and Chinese Elms .
Cheers Alpineart

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful
