Location map of Tokoname potters?

Post by wrcmad »

Hi all,

Just wondering if anybody has a location map of the bonsai potters kilns in Tokoname?
I have searched everywhere... but no joy. :shake:
Sort of need it in the next 48hrs.

Much appreciated. :)

PS If nobody has one, I will make one next week and publish it!

G'day,

I did see one on a signboard somewhere in Tokoname and I thought I took a photo of it but can't find it.
From memory there were 2 different paths you could take. Each was a couple of KM long.

There's also the Pottery Footpath which starts at Tokoname Station.

Regards,
Steven

Well, the response from those "in the know" was a little underwhelming?
And there are some here that are in the know.... :lost:
A bit disappointing... maybe all information is not for sharing?

Ah well, if there are some secrets to be had, I thought I'd just have to go figure them out by myself. :D

So, I headed to Tokoname as a side trip from Kokufu, asked the right questions, and not only got the good answers, was led to them in one of the pot-makers car!

Kataoka's outlet:

Yamafusa giving me a demo of his craft:

2 generations of Koyo, and his wife and daughter:

Koyo's workshop/sales:

Me making some good contacts in Tokoname:

So, I now have a map marked with the locations of the Tokoname potters workshops, but am yet to publish this ... (the secrecy must be for a reason :P )

Great photos! It looks like you had a great outing. Koyo's workshop looks dangerous for old bank balance. My next trip to Japan I'll be sure to go to Tokoname.

How many kilns did you visit in the end?

Cheers,
Pearcy.
