Right Place / Right Time

Post by Theodore »

While manning the stand at the Wodonga Show last week a gentleman approached and said he had a few bonsai figs and pots that he wanted to be rid of. He mentioned he was into the hobby in the late 70's early 80's.

I gave him one of our flyers with our club details and asked him to email some pics and how much he wanted for all the stuff.

Well the email came and the price seemed reasonable so I made an offer based only on the photos that were sent. I counted 29 pots and three figs also each in pots. My offer was accepted so I went and picked them up this morning.

After a bit of a clean, here is what I came home with.

And some of the chops I was surprised to find.

A few pots were marked with Made in Japan, a few had only a number. If any of you recognise any of them, I'd be happy to know where they came from.

Quite a good haul and if I'm honest I feel like I got a very very good bargain.

The trees certainly need some love and by the look haven't been reported for quite a while, or pruned for that matter.

No.2 chop is Tokoname - Kaiyou, though it is very low-quality slip-cast production-grade pot (not in high demand for those collecting Tokoname).
The other two are also slips, so low-grade production also, but not sure of the chops.

Thanks mate. At well under $10 a pot I'm not complaining!

Great steal there mate. I just picked up a deal a bit like this today. Maybe I'll add photos today. Some of my pots have chops & numbers also. My haul came in at under $4 per pot ;)
