Used pots from Japan

Post by iliya »

I picked up these used pots during a recent trip to Japan,
Can someone identify who the potters are and if these pots are special or just run of the mill type pots?

Hi
That pot is by Mizutani. A mass produced line of pot in Japan. It is not considered to be an expensive pot in Japan.
PS- Japanese friend of mine has given these details to me.
Regarding the 3rd pic...

That first one has a really great aged patina - you've bought them because you like them & to enjoy?
If so, enough reason to consider all of these as "special" pots - regardless of the maker or price they may be worth.

1st one, ?? - pic of chop mark would confirm.
2nd one is production-grade slip cast - nothing special.
3rd one is a cracker Tokoname - Koyo (chop mark is pictured upside down) .... and an older one too - you can tell by the dark-coating on the clay, and the glaze dribble on the inside of the rim. It's a definite keeper.
