Hi Everyone,
While others are chasing Spring carnival in Melbourne we were busy with sorting out our latest acquisition of over 80 Japs pots. These were left collecting dust in a shed from an old couple in Port Melbourne. After spending a couple of hours carefully unpacking and cleaning them we realised we have hit the jackpot as most of the pots are from older generation of pot makers pots from early 40's or possibly earlier during the "Golden Age" era (1921-1941) which ceramic goods were backstamped as "JAPAN" as opposed to "MADE IN JAPAN".

Thanks for asking but not at this stage Daluke as I'm still hungry for more antique Japanese pots but will certainly keep you in mind if my collection is getting out of hand.

I picked these up a few months ago and did not know the JAPAN stamp was a lot older than others. There's a few others I'm not sure of too.

spot on Banong on that eBay lot.. There were only a few pots that I suspected Japanese from that photo but only to discovered most were vintage Japs at pickup. Just lucky I guess. ...still in a process of identifying those hidden chops

Photo 15 (pale blue square pot) is Korean Tongrae Kiln, i have the exact same pot

I also have a small blue one similar to the small round one you have marked "Japan". All i can say is it's slip cast by the flow lines of the clay but not necessarily a bad pot.

My usual go-to resources for chops has failed me on all the other chops above sorry, something like 10-15% of those who actually signed their pots remain recorded so there is always a chance you won't find the Kiln or the potter. I have a couple that i can't find the chops for but it's not the end of the world i still like the pots.
