Thanks for the info and all your troubles Mel.
Fujiyama are usually makers of plastic bonsai pots, I wonder what that means?

That's what I thought too Watto, so maybe the translation is wrong...

I'll keep an eye out for that chop, it's quite distinctive!

The tell tale sign that you have a significant issue, is when you start growing trees to suit the pots and not the other way around.

In my travels, I cannot resist pots by the masters Pat Kennedy or Marie Hewartson.

And I have some lovely unique Australian ones by Penny Davis, Lyn and Graham.

Your pretty bag pot is by Mr SHIBATA Shouichi http://www.tokoname.or.jp/bonsai/catalog/maker-e.htm

The round chop on the crab pot seems to match a Joshu Shozan mark on the Japanesebonsaipots.net site. https://japanesebonsaipots.net/chop-and ... -resource/

Thankyou again Mel. You are right on the money with the Shouichi from Tokoname. Its not the best quality chop so you are very observant. That particular pot has an interesting finish on it and it doesn't really show in the photo, but when you overexpose it to light a little, you can see the character. I have attached a photo just for interest.
Thanks again.
Paul - a chop is just the makers mark.
I think I will have to do my research on the crab pot?

You're welcome, Watto. I was interested because I have a similar pot. I was told that the maker used clay with lots of oxides in it, and that's why it gets that sort of an iron bloom, if that makes sense.

I haven't worked out the maker of mine....lol

Had another trawl through the Japanese pot blog and it looks like mine is Keisui...

Mel - I think your pot is probably a Keisui.

Just back from a family wedding in Perth with six Shohin pots from Japan via my Grandaughter and what do I find? Show and tell pots no less. Here's my Shohins. Just love them, now to fill them.

Yep me too, just bought another pot that i have no tree for because i'd not seen a glaze like it before. I've started displaying the pots on empty book shelves rather than just leave them in a cupboard.

C'mon guys share those pot pics......BTW I think my little Japanese pots are Mame not Shohin going by our Wiki up top. Trees up to 10cm may fit but not Shohin to 25cm in those little ones.My grandaughter was just looking for little Bonsai pots she could carry without worrying about weight in her luggage....gives me a new dimension to think about/play with.

SueBee I agree, they do look more like mame pots. You might be able to get something to grow to shohin size in some of them, but they'd likely be too unstable if the tree was too tall.
