Calling pot experts

Post by kez »

Hey all

Been hunting around for some excess pots lately and some good general conifer type pots to have on hand and I found this one yesterday. One of the local garden centres has recently acquired a heap of bonsai pots, and while about half are run of the mill chinese, there are also what appears to be many used pots, some still with drainage mesh inside :palm:

Anyway, this is one such pot. I bought this for the color of the clay, the well made subtly quality, and the feel. It was lighter by far than any of the pots of a similar size, and feels much denser and smoother to the touch. The chop on the bottom is also much finer and looks to be scratched in rather than stamped

I was wondering, can anybody identify this

Lovely pot Kerrin. I too am intrigued - recently I purchased two pots of similar clay colour, lightness and a wonderful feel. However, I am not so lucky as to have any markings on the base. I am interested in any response to you however as perhaps your pot may indicate a region from where my pots may have originated. All I was told was Japanese - around 40 years old ... who’s to know.

Good luck with your ID and love your Bonsai work too. [THUMBS UP SIGN]

If no one knows it i’ll Check it tonight through my usual resources. I don’t instantly recognise it, but it seems familiar

*edit* Had a quick look through but couldn't find it, several with similar chops but not exactly this one.

Hey Kez,

Mate I too have a pot by the same Potter. I spent a long long time trying to work it out, but was never successful. If you ever manage to find out please let me know. I never posted on AB due to the poor quality characters on mine. Hopefully yours can get us an ID.

Cheers,
Pearcy.

It is a chinese pot from a fairly popular chinese potter. His pot are also sold to Japan.
He is quite popular in China.

The link below takes you to another one of his pots. The stamp looks different but it is his name in the details.

If you can translate chinese, the article will tell you a bit about the potter.
