Any ideas on this pot?

Had an elderly neighbor auction their house and today they put a bunch of pots out for the taking. One of them was this pot. Quite sure they previously had a juniper inside it (or possibly sitting underneath one) because there were bits of juniper leaves in the remaining dirt.

It's shallow, but it's definitely not just a water collection tray for a larger plant. There are no holes in the bottom, so I'm thinking of carefully adding some. There appears to be a mark stamped in the center of the base, but it has worn away from age.

Anyone who has a lot of pots can suggest what it might be made from? It's a little bit thick, appears to have some sort of a glaze but it has definitely aged. It doesn't have a crisp ding that modern pots have when you flick it.

Anyway, I like it and already have something picked out to put in it. Assuming it will hold up once a couple of drainage holes have been put in.
