show stands

Post by nevilleh »

Any advice out there of places in Australia (preferred) to buy stands (kits, ready-made etc) for showing a bonsai at our next club show.. It is my first time putting a bonsai in the show and i suddenly realised that I will need something to place it on! (bonsai is an elm forest in a tray).

many thanks

It is often very difficult to find the right one, may take some time. Bamboo or grass mats are not ideal but they might suffice until you get something nice.
Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

Check out as many op shops as you can... old bread boards or wooden serving trays can be tailored, stained and finished to make great, inexpensive bonsai stands.

Do you go up to Sydney very often? Ray usually has some nice ones at his Nursery.
Slabs cut from Olive lignotubers are nice when polished and they will last for ever, really hard.
Cut and polished Mallee roots also look good with the right trees.
I also made a couple and I am NO carpenter
