Make photos - mini display stands

Post by jozaeh »

Hey Everyone,
A few of you were interested in the making process of the little display tables, so while making some more for some orders for ausbonsai members, I took some photos along the way. This was the first time that i've worked with new woods, like new guinea rosewood and satin sycamore. And i'm always keen to see what other wood workers out there can give for tips on making stuff like this, i'm always open for learning and I know some of you are pros!

If anyone is interested in some hand made display stands, feel free to give me a holler and we can chat.

So for those interested, enjoy!

Jozaeh

Very Nice Jozaeh

you do all the timber removal by hand? no Drill press or router table?

Nice. Love the cascade one :-)

VERY impressive.
As someone whom also works regularly with timber also, I must say your attention to detail on the scrolled legs is awesome. Not many have that patience, the end result shows the quality of craftsmanship well. The seal on the bottom takes the cake for me though.

Thanks for sharing, :)
Regards, Mitchell.

Hey Ken,
Yeah, I sort of 'sand' out all the inside timber with the dremel's chunky sanding cylinder bit, and then get rid of the remaining timber with the finer grinding bits. And I WISH i had a router or drill press to help out, alas i don't!

and i'm glad you liked the cascade one, i tried something different with that one, opting for the solid base as opposed to the standard table with four tall thin legs style. it was fun experimenting with how to create a cascade stand.

thanks!

Ah wow thanks Mitchell! I appreciate the appreciation from another woodworker. And I can tell ya, i was working sooooo delicately with some of those scrolled legs with fear of destroying the whole leg in a single slip of the dremel bit. Luckily the fun we have with somethings takes the place of where patience would help out, otherwise yep, i just wouldn't have the patience!

(much like waiting for a trunk to thicken, darn father time).

And points to you too, i love wax seals so much. So that's my fave part as well.

thanks for the comment,
Jozaeh

They are beautiful :tu: I am still learning to saw straight... and lately I have discovered hand planes. I thought you might like this one Holtey Classic Handplanes -- in the workshop. The handles are absolutely amazing.

Did you cut and turn the timber yourself or you got it prepared?

Oh my gosh, those planes are gorgeous!! The last time I used one was in high school and that was 15 years ago, aie! But the finish on those planes is amazing, I can just picture holding one and being silent as i turn it over in my hands for 20 minutes straight, wah.

and the timber I used was bought from a place in near brisbane called 'lazarides', they have heaps of wood for sale, and they have a turn block section with soooo many varieties of wood in the round blocks. Nice and cheap, perfect for making tiny tables with.
