First Kusamono/Accent plant

Post by Ces »

Hey Guys,

Here's my first attempt at creating an accent plant. I find that information about the best ways to put these together is few and far between, so would love some suggestions on the current arrangement.

Its mondo grass and Nierembergia repens...

What sort of pruning schedule should I follow? or do I just let it grow wild.

Cheers,

Ces.

That's super nice mate. I'd just let it fill in for now, Ive found mondo goes nuts if left in a shallow water drip tray with scoria.

Thanks for the tip and comment andrew. I'll move it into my gravel ray today.

Nice little accent arrangement.
The important thing to consider with accent plants is just what 'accent' you are trying to convey.
When displaying bonsai with an accent plant, the accent should convey a feeling of the environment your tree is growing in. For example, if displaying a windswept style tree, which has perhaps grown into this windswept style as a result of growing in a coastal location, then the accent plant should be a species that occurs in coastal locations.
After roughly 20 years of growing bonsai, I reckon I might just be starting to get the hang of it...
