Hello,

This is my sanctuary. It's just over 18 months old. and the plants are starting to take off. Hope like like it. I love my garden. Any tips are welcome.

Hi Adrian,
at a glance I can see a very easy and inexpensive thing you could do to add interest to this garden. If you were to add some larger pebbles as a shoreline along the length of the existing loose pebbled "stream", you would add a lot of textuaral interest and movement to the space, especially when the plantings at the edges begin to overflow onto the pebbles as they mature. Use the same colour or a very similar colour and vary the width of the shoreline along it's length in a serpentine manner. In my garden designing days, I would hand sort granite rubble into 3-4 sizes for this purpose when building a dry garden, it makes a noticeable difference.

Thanks for the reply guys. Ken, I've been digging bamboo into the ground in long tubs, a little further up the fence. It's expensive and takes time. Also,The neighbour has some dog-ugly metal sheds, and the like, which back onto the fence. I've been looking at them for far too long.
Thanks for the tip Mojo, I'll have a look at it. I've been re-digging pebbled areas up and washing out the soil. it sounds like a plan. Much better than a friends idea to get that disgusting plastic edging.

Looks good. I agree that you should try and hide the neighbours houses and sheds. Some taller thin trees would work well.

I've been continuing to work on my garden.... Slowly. Here are some progress pics.







I've taken some tips from this thread, pulled a few plants out and installed some monkey stands this winter. I will gather some larger stones for edging this summer to help with erosion. The mondo grass has become quite thick now and looks pretty flush. I'll eventually dig the maple out and there are two pines in the garden which will come out as well. The maple will be trunk chopped. The pines are planted in a large tub in the ground as I always wanted to train them at a latter date.

Barry1, I had a garden in the past with a koi pond. This time I wanted something different and I also have a 15 month old I didn't want swimming after the fish! [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH]

Your garden is looking great and filling in nicely.
Your neighbors zinc shed is a bit of a distraction, would it be possible to plant something there or put up a screen of some sort?
