Hi all,

I would highly recommend the tour to all Bonsai lovers at all levels and ages.

We saw many nurseries, two shows, field growing and of course lots of fabulous Bonsai.

The trip also included visits to some amazing Temples and structures; as well as many different gardens and parks.

The evening meals were also a highlight.

My favourite part of the trip was the visit to Kobyashis' nursery in Tokyo; mind blowing is the only word.

Contact Shuji directly. His contact details are above.

We met in Japan at initially Narita airport then taxi to a hotel in Narita itself where we had our first meal as a group. Some had come a day earlier to rest before the busy schedule. People came by Qantas, JAL and Jet star, transport is up to you. 3 of us went via Shanghai for 3 days and we came from Shanghai on China Eastern.

Lots of nice pots. I even met the current owner of the pottery kiln that made a pot that Lennie Webber bought sometime in the 1960s. I bought the pot in 1988 at the auction after he died and I bought the exact same pot in a smaller size this trip.

Unfortunately that particular kiln is no longer operating so he is just selling off stock. His father made the pots many years ago.

It was an amazing trip Shuji - thanks again for organising it. :worship:

So many highlights and so many quality trees - I'm still shaking my head at the shear quantity of quality trees over there! Where are the average ones!?!

If I had to choose some highlights, maybe the growing areas at Takamatsu, Kobyashis' amazing nursery, Ueno Green Club market and the friendly guys at Aichi-en - oh and Tokoname! The food wasn't too bad either :tu:

If anyone is interested in bonsai and thinking about heading to Japan - you need to get on this trip the next time Shuji runs it! :tu:

Nice Photos Jason. Some trees are better than the trees at the Kokufuten!

A small selection from Omiya Bonsai Village

I apologise for the bias towards deciduous trees!

Your spot on Shuji! I joked that I could buy a tree at the market, give a quick tidy up and a week later enter it in the Kokufuten! :hooray:
