Hi All,

What sort of gravel/stone/pebbles are people using for their japanese gardens here in AUS?

I'm more of a fan of the lighter grey / white rather then the blinding white stones.

Does any one have a suggestion?

Blue metal is light grey gravel. Have a look on ANL web site for others

I'm sure it will depend what you can get in your area. Perth will not necessarily have the same products as Sydney area.
Best to call into a garden supply place. They usually have samples in display boxes of all the different gravels in stock. You could try a couple locally but I've found that all in a particular area have access to the same stones.

Hi There

Just a tip, if you are doing a large area then get the total amount as it does change colour slightly from batch to batch.

Thanks for that!

I'll steer clear of blue metal it gives me flash backs on playing as a kid on our partial blue metal drive way and many a busted foot!

I'll go down to some local landscape places and take a look around it does make sense to not be transporting dirt / stone long distances for things like this.

nothing yet! I ended up making some changes to my front garden first hopefully i will be done with those in the next month or so.
I'll do up a sketch in the next few weeks.

I have to pull out a japanese maple from a location that was part of the original design, no matter what i try i can't keep it happy in summer even after year 2, its literally shed its leaves 3 times this summer despite lots of water, shade cloth wind break and giant umbrella mid summer! Anyone who has been able to grow a JM in perth metro i have no idea how!
