The shoyen gardens at Dubbo is only about 5-6 years old but I think it is one of the best layed out little japanese style garden I have seen. If you know the Cowra Japanese gardens I think it has all the elements of that garden compressed to maybe 1/6 the size. It is going to be a very impressive little garden in the future when the cherry and pine trees come of age.

The gardner that looks after the place, a very Aussie council gardener, is a very enthusiastic chap and is happy to hear compliments about the garden. A while ago he told me that the expert gardeners from Japan that helped design the garden did the initial training of the Pines and such and would be comming back in a year or so.
I called the Dubbo council today and was told that the japanese gardeners were due to come back in June or July this year. It was explained to me that the Japanese gardeners were there to train the council gardeners only but anyone was welcome to come along and watch. It may be hard to ask questions unless you take an interpreter with you :) I think this is a unique oportunity. Hmm I wonder if there are any council jobs going?
I will update as I get more detailed info for anyone thats intrested.

Hi
just thought I'd share a photo of "Tree Trimmers" outside the Imperial Palace, Japan.
Photo taken in poor light in 2005.....Large bonsai without the pots...does that make them "Bon"
cheers
Dave
