Suiseki or simple landscaping materials

Post by alpineart »

These are just a few of the types of rocks or river stones i pick up around my local area . Some could definitely be polished up and used as Viewing Stones , however i don't get a kick out of looking at rocks unless there's a good bonsai amidst he outcrops . Itry to collect at least 2 of the same type of make up be it quartz , sedimentary or granite or any other type of material .

I rarely mix and match the different types of rock however the shapes can be concealed or revealed in the soil mix to show off the best feature be it the grain or the shape . Like yamadori tree's a look at a thousands rock and collect one , i don't just collect anything , it has to have unusual character . Not all are used for landscapes quite a few are used for ROR , i prefer to fit the roots to the rock rather than try to fit the rock to the roots so the collection of rocks is quite extensive .
