I have been a rockhound for many years until age and infirmity demanded I stop climbing mountains and wading creeks - to say nothing of cracking rocks to find gems.LOL
Some of the rocks in my 'collection' Not polished or really much altered at all - some waiting for inspiration- some never to be touched.

This one is joined by a Pinus Pinea that I am playing with. ( sorry - for some reason some images from my computer are being turned sideways- frustrating).

Dish shapes are hard to find so I brought these back from a friends farm in Qld.

Collecting Olivine gems was once a great occupation in my retirement but sadly OH&S has now made the quarry off limits to us all.

Great idea to modify by holing them- must give it a try with my masonry bit.
I just wish I was thinking Bonsai when I first began collecting - buy reason enough to go hunting again if in different places. Glad I still have access to Gem Club for cutting them as I sold my machines a year ago.

Nice finds there!

I took an extra suitcase to FNQ when I was there recently...and left a box for my daughter to bring back when she returns next year...lol!

I just can't help myself! :)

There is some nice frost-split granite bowl shapes in the Nanango area if anyone goes up that way. Some of it is decomposed on the surface so worth a test to see if it will be firm enough to plant in.

Lots of nice granite around Tenterfield too. I brought some home but left it in my friend's car.... sadly never seen since.

Oh well...

I was lucky enough to find some amazing meterorites in a complete strewn field while fossicking in Saudi Arabia a few years ago. The black meterorites showed up as an anomaly on the desert sand and I homed in on them from a higher dune. The sad thing was I had nothing but my shirt to carry them in so had to leave most for someone else as it was quite a hike back to base. I have searched a lot in Australia and never found any ,then not looking and come on a whole strewn field - it is a searchers dream. Some I sent to Museum and a few came home in my baggage with one around my neck that I set in silver.

Nice! They would stand out against the sand!
