Koreshoff Book Giveaway!!!
Gday folks!
Some time ago, we had a brief discussion outlining our reasons for trying to create Bonsai from Australian native plants. The replies were quite varied, but there did seem to be a certain amount of 'pioneering spirit' across the board, and many are enjoying the challenges associated with Australian native Bonsai.
Dorothy and Vita Koreshoff were veritable pioneers of the Australian Bonsai scene, and their book "Bonsai With Australian Native Plants" is considered by many to be the Bible of Oz native Bonsai.
I have one (1) new copy of the book to give away!!!
Simply post to this thread stating why you would choose to work with Australian native plants in your Bonsai practice, and/or why you deserve to win this book. Our esteemed panel of judges will choose the best/most original entry, and the winner will be announced on Sunday September 20 at 6:00 PM (EST). I will cover the postage and handling costs if the winner is within Australia.
Good luck all!

Re: Koreshoff Book Giveaway!!!
Got me reading mine today and I learnt something great already. Talking about waiting until the tree goes dormant then looking for the new buds before repotting. I was thinking but my gums never go dormant. That was on the next page. Aparently it is common for gums to continueally show new growth. They suggest to reduce watering to induce a dormant period.
I remember you doing this a different way Fly.
Good luck guys.
Maybe everyone already has it? ok I will give it a go.
I need this book so I can have a nice clean one to keep in the cupboard and one that I can read with dirty hands.

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Re: Koreshoff Book Giveaway!!!
Pup,
As you know I asked about this topic the other day.
Being relatively new to the skill and art of Bonsai I have seen and almost jumped on the wagon of "Exotic Species" that form the majority of the everyday persons idea of Bonsai. Our own "Special" species of flora can form it's own special subgroup of Bonsai that is unique, exotic and beautiful for the rest of the world to see and enjoy. I hope to learn and design many of our beautiful plants to inspire others.
It might sound crawly but having been fringing for quite a while and having done my first class today...I completely hooked. I want to retire (early) to do this stuff (tell him his dreamin!).
LOL
Cheers

Whilst walking through the forest of Bonsai Myths, I found a single small tree.
From it I learned all I needed to know.

Re: Koreshoff Book Giveaway!!!
I Need to win this book because
I am an avid fan of Aussie natives, and would love to be able, to refer to already done work by one of the peers of Australian Bonsai scene, while on my Quest for the knowledge on natives I seek.
I am sure that with this book in my possesion, I will be able to, more quickly, apply the garnered knowledge and experience to my own endeavours to further Australian Natives as Bonsai
Please mister Fly, Consider my sumission for the competition for this wonderful gift

Gday Bretts, Techpetal, Chris and KCPoole!
Very valid and interesting entries you've all made, and they are being scrutinized by our judges as we speak (except maybe Bretts' entry ).
Sadly, this copy of the book isn't signed by any of the Koreshoffs as far as I know, but I am willing to sign it myself if that will help its 'prizeability'.
Thanks all, and good luck!

The thought of a signed book is magic. Does not matter who signs it, you or the author as you both are, or will be very big in the Aussie native Bonsai scene
You are a humble bloke and your contributions both here and on Bonsatalk in the past are very much up there with the best of 'em.

Re: Koreshoff Book Giveaway!!!
Hi everyone,
I've been into bonsai for just over 12 months and I'm becoming more interested in using native trees. Obviously when starting out you read and see all about the exotic species, but we have some awesome natives!! i'm yet to try one, but I'm going to get in on the other thread about using a native not previously used. I own a couple of books that focus on exotics, and I feel that this book would be the best way for me to learn about natives!!

Whats wrong with my entry it is imformative, honest (not like some of these buggers) and even has a little humor thrown in.FlyBri wrote:Gday Bretts, Techpetal, Chris and KCPoole!
