Re: Who is interested in a Literati Bunjin contest
I am sure it would cost us but like they say good advice is worth paying for
Maybe I should add an option to the poll. If we had an expert giving us advice would you be willing to pay a $5 entry fee?
I thought of Tony as this is one of his favourite subjects but I am sure there are plenty that are qualified
A workshop with Tony can be $20 maybe we can get him or some one to do an online workshop with each entrant ?
Of course I haven't asked anyone but I don't see why we couldn't get some one to agree to something like this

Re: Who is interested in a Literati Bunjin contest
Sorry guys I edited my post.
I am thinking both Jarryd wether you show a progression of a already styled tree as well would be an option. As in two catagories. I am thinking it is not about progression in an estabished tree but simply the final entry that would be judged.
I will happily ask Tony and see what he says.

Re: Who is interested in a Literati Bunjin contest
For the judge's convenience, I would suggest that it would be good if the entrants could be anonymous to him/her and that some indication of size is included. I'm not keen on the fee for entry to be honest. I'm sure that someone will judge for the hell of it. I would. My reference to a fee above was intended as a chuckle causation.

Re: Who is interested in a Literati Bunjin contest
Ah Stymie I missed your post. That is a very kind offer.
I personaly would have no issue paying for expert tution wether online or otherwise. I find the cost of travel and accomadation often costs me more than the tution itself offline

Re: Who is interested in a Literati Bunjin contest
Yes a big thank you to the sponsor. It seems we have sparked someones interest in this topic as we have been sponsored around a whopping $200 in prize money for this little endeavour.
We have secured Pup as a judge/instructor and although I have not PM'd Stymie yet I hope he will also take on that role after his previous offer Pup has agreed to something akin to an online workshop for each contestant(depending on number of participants I would think ). As I thought he won't accept any money but we will be supplying him with a couple of gifts for his expert time. I have a couple of pots on my make list for him and Stymie if he likes. Maybe we can scrounge a couple of other gifts for them.
I have not been able to get advice from Steven at the moment on what format he recommends but since we have a very decent prize pool I think anonymity in the entries would be appropriate. I want to allow free discussion with the judges and members so I am thinking we can only accomplish this with anonymity if all entries and questions are forwarded to one representative, who them posts them to keep even the questions anonymous.
I have a nomination for this job but I will PM first to confirm availability
Although I am not sure of the format yet I am thinking any previously posted trees may have to be disqualified from entry as anonymity is lost
In any event don't post any you may want to enter from here on in
We will keep you updated

Re: Who is interested in a Literati Bunjin contest
Heres some rules of the same type of comp:
1) Contest officially starts ......... You may submit photos of the tree earlier than this date, and repot the trees before this date into training pots, however you cannot work (prune, wire, carve etc) on the trees till ......... or after.
2) Cut off date for initial submission of stock is ................
3) End date for the contest is ........... At that point the final entries will be compiled and posted for voting by all forum members.
4) The trees can be yamadori, nursery stock, or trees dug up from your yard. However you may not use
stock bought at a bonsai nursery that has already been partly trained as bonsai.
5) You may have up to three submissions in the contest.
6) This must be a new tree, something you have not previously posted on the forum or anyplace else, including personal websites, magazines, and other forums.
7) It can be a mame, shohin or larger tree, no size restrictions. Penjing are allowed.
8) Use of Deadwood is encouraged but not required. Phoenix grafts are also encouraged, but not required.
9) Final tree must be displayed in a proper bonsai pot, nice looking training pot, or on a slab. To
define nice looking training pot: No cast off tupperware bowls in the final display, or plastic
nursery pots. Mica bonsai pots, plastic bonsai pots, Terracotta bulb and azalea pots, drum pots are all OK.
10) All the photographs must be taken by You - no one else. You can certainly ask for tips and advice on how to take pictures, but your fingers are the ones clicking the camera. No Photoshopping allowed.
11) This tree must be your OWN tree, and not someone else's. Those caught using a tree that does not belong to them will be disqualified.
