I don't think that one will be accepted in this competition Ben. For this one the trees have to be Aussie natives.
There is one Largestromia species that is native to Australia - Lagerstroemia archeriana form far north Qld where it is quite rare. L. indica originally comes from the Indian sub continent so can't be considered to be an Aussie.

Guess the judges will have to decide - I'm no expert so I googled and Wikipedia says "native to the Indian subcontinent, southeast Asia, northern Australia, and parts of Oceania".

Hi Ben - :lost: did you include the "indica" word in your Wiki search?

I style Bonsai naturally, just as they would appear in the wild.

Consider putting it into the ground next winter, to grow long, cut back hard each year - Crepe Myrtle make excellent bonsai, and this new dark-leafed form looks very dramatic - the flowers are brick red, at least on mine. If you've attacked the roots in the heat of summer, you might like to cut the top back quite a bit.

Good buy, just not native!

Good luck,

Gavin

A really good time to plant in the ground is at the start of Autumn. Provided you give it water, the plant will establish rapidly and will then put on significant growth the following Spring.
