The field as it stands is...

Shocking: A wide barrier and top weight to count against the 2009 winner? Will still act very well on the track at Flemington

Campanologist: Questionable whether this runner will stay the trip

So You Think: The horse that they all have to beat. Landed the Cox Plate and then battered his opponents in the Mackinnon Stakes.

Zipping: Had a good run in the Cox Plate, although age could count against this runner. Perhaps worthy of an each-way punt.

Illustrious Blue: Can this European raider cause an upset? We know it can act over two miles, although dry tracks are preferable

Mr Medici: Hong Kong raider who ran gamely in the Caulfield Cup and has a fair draw.

Shoot Out: Last years’ winning jockey is on board and can run into a place thanks to its staying qualities

Americain: Geelong win means that this horse has to be respected and could represent the best chance of any overseas horse winning.

Tokai Trick: This Japanese campaigner is getting a little long in the tooth and could just find the quality too much for him to make an impression.

Buccellati: Hard to see this one figuring in the final shake-up.

Descarado: This horse acts best on wet ground and should be on any Melbourne Cup shortlist. Won Caulfield Cup and was a gallant second in the Mackinnon Stakes.

Harris Tweed: Was 5th last year and is open to improvement this time around. Could easily run into the frame and has won at Flemington this season.

Manighar: Solid effort in the Caulfield Cup. Seems to enjoy wet ground, genuine hope.

Master O'Reilly: Without a win for three years and hard to see things changing.

Monaco Consul: Strong finish expected from this horse thanks to good stamina, although will the charge have enough speed at the end?

Profound Beauty: Not been given a great barrier draw and might well be found out by some of the more quality horses in the race.

Zavite: Twice winner at two miles and decent effort at Caulfield. Rough place chance.

Bauer: Lost the 2008 Melbourne Cup by a nose and will have plenty of backers hoping to see a repeat performance – although this is unlikely.

Holberg: Frankie Dettori aboard although many question marks over this runner.

Precedence: Has the potential to run a big race in the Melbourne Cup and shouldn’t be too far away

Red Ruler: New Zealand raider that might struggle to form an impression.

Linton: Consistent performer that has been somewhat unfortunate to get a wide barrier draw

Once Were Wild: One of the better longshots after a brave effort in the Lexus on Saturday.

Maluckyday: Low weight and our idea of a great each-way prospect. Won in the Lexus Stakes to land a place in the field and will stay on right to the end.

The fine print: -
Only one entry per member.
If your allocated horse gets scratched, sorry but your out of the sweep.
If there are less than 24 horses by the time we draw the sweep, the first members to respond will be given a horse.
Prises will be posted anywhere around the world after winners PM me their postal address.
It's only a bit of fun. Seriously, don't take it too seriously!

Regards,
Steven

Count the Grizzly in. If my horse doesn't place, can I eat it?
A woman is expected to be trim, taut & terrific.
A bear is expected to eat itself stupid, sleep for six months, be hairy, grumpy and swat anything that annoys it.

I'm coming back as a bear!!!!
