Re: sticks in pots. These are my sticks in a pot - my entry for the Christmas tree competition held at my club this week. The brief was to break a few rules and have a bit of fun. I didn't win but then I'm only a beginner.

The lake is melted candle wax, the snow is salt (packs down in humid weather). I made the mountain out of white DAS but I am hoping to find a proper suiseki stone like this one day. I had a ball doing it but my cat has now taken a liking to the white paper and has left unsightly marks.

"Albert" doesn't come indoors untill the family are due to arrive. As a bonsai he's a shocker; a sale item after Christmas and always intended as a Christmas Tree, he has bar branches , bulges on the trunk etc., not to mention that untill I read Morton Albeck's book "Shohin Bonsai" I just "didn't get" pine training and care. I hope to have Albert in better condition for next Christmas but in the meantime the grandkids (and the big kids) enjoy him in all his finery.

Yes, too late for the comp but thought you'd enjoy the look anyway.
