New pot
Here's a new pot based on a 14th century BC, Shang Dynasty cooking pot.
The glaze is Redgum Ash; Raku clay, fired to 1300C. 30x12cms
Cheers,
Pat

Re: New pot
Hi Pat,
I don't suppose you'll be coming to the Adelaide convention this May with a selection of pots for sale?
I can guarantee the sale of the pot just posted.
Cheers,
Luke

After roughly 20 years of growing bonsai, I reckon I might just be starting to get the hang of it...

Re: New pot
Thanks for the positive messages guys.
Luke, this pot (or one very similar) is destined to be a raffle or door-prize at your convention in May...
it's how I get rid of my pots
Cheers,
Pat

Re: New pot
This pot has a more useable design perhaps...
Same clay, same firing but this time the ash is mountain-ash. 310x250x75mm

Re: New pot
They both look great Pat but the first is more unique and compelling for my interests.
Correct me if I'm wrong Pat but I thought you were either retiring from pottery or at least not doing any commercial works anymore?

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Re: New pot
I have retired Boics and you're right, I don't do commercial work anymore, but this is my life (when I'm not fishing), and I can't just walk away totally....I need to get muddy!!
I don't do bonsai shows (as a trader) anymore, but I do think and make bonsai pots constantly, albeit slowly .
To avoid drowning I provide pots for some bonsai shows as raffle prizes and when people visit me here I can be talked into 'rehousing' a pot or two.
In response to your first sentence, thankyou, and I agree, however it seems that for many people bonsai pots must fit into a rigid formula.
Cheers,
Pat

Pat,
Thank you for sharing, I love the look of both. That finish is awesome!
Is the only way to buy your pots to attend a show you attend?
Cheers

A rigid formula is a recepie for failure in regard to creativity. I have no doubt that your pots will always be sort after with ever increasing demand.

Re: New pot
Thanks for your responses guys, I appreciate them.
Elmar, sorry, I don't sell at shows anymore. You could drop in here but that would be a bit of a hike!
While it's always nice to get a pat-on-the-back, there's nothing quite like a thoughtful appraisal of your work to pave the road ahead. To my mind, the most useful appraisal is not necessarily positive but will, with some sensitivity, suggest ways that improvements could be made. The recipient doesn't necessarily have to agree with the criticism but if at all sensible, will reflect on it.
I'll now climb off me soap box
