Pots by Marie Hewartson

Post by Rory »

I had the pleasure of talking to Marie Hewartson a while ago and purchased a few of her pots. These are a sample of her work. She emailed me these pictures.

For those that know the high craftmanship and precision of a Pat Kennedy pot, these are made with the same high level of craftmanship.

These pots are of the same calibre as the man Pat Kennedy. But now that he is basically enjoying his retirement, this is a very complimentary alternative to another raw style.
They are unique and beautifully made, and some are free form and others are perfectly symmetrical. She also makes classical pots but I didn't really ask for these in her email request.

Her name is Marie Hewarston and here are her details.
At the moment she only makes pots up to 35cm in size but she says if she gets enough requests for larger pots then she will start up a larger kiln.

She posted me a few pots in the mail from the Gold Coast and they all arrived safely and secure.
The pots that arrived are simply beautiful.

Her details are here:

Love that bottom left one Rory, would love to see photo's of the pots you recieved once potted (or not potted :P)

Going off the photos I can't see any wire holes, can you confirm? Either way very beautiful pots.

Cheers,
Pearcy.

The ones on the right are the pots she sent me.

The ones on the left are other customer purchases.

In regards to the wire holes, I didn't check, but if you need them you can just request her to add them.
I don't use wire holes myself, but there are easy methods to compensate using the drainage holes and bend out and under the pot if you need be.

Great purchases, I'll be chasing her down in the near future. There's something about the texture on your first and last pot that I can't ever get enough of, love it.

Thanks for sharing :tu:

Hi peter,

Unfortunately she doesn't have a website, but she can email you photos of her work.

She is a great potter, as like pat, she said she can replicate pots she has done previously.

Just send her an email or give her a call.
Her contact details are in the first post at the top of this thread.

Like all potters here in Australia, support her guys. I can think of nothing more awesome than our fabulous potters getting enough work to all make pots full time.

One day we will hopefully have many full time potters with websites like other countries.

When I hear disappointing news of various Australian potters no longer making pots and thinking I've missed the boat, it's a relief to know someone is taking up where others left off.

Hi Delisea,

Pretty much the same as all aussie potters. Depends on size / shape / work involved etc.

Best to just ask her, she is lovely to talk to and clearly knows a lot about pots. Postage was cheap, and pots were very fairly priced. :tu:

Hi Pat, I hope you are well.

You know me well Pat. I had actually commissioned Marie to replicate those top 2 pots on the left. Those top 2 pots on the left were what actually made me contact Marie in the first place, as I thought they were spectacular. The ones on the right were what she had available at the time so I couldn't say no. Basically, the ones on the left are what I am asking her to replicate for me. :fc:

I think I have fallen more in love with pots than bonsai. :palm:

In regards to the previous comments about wire holes, I checked them all, and they all have wire holes yes.
