Callistemon and air-layering?
Hi all, I have set three air-layers on an old Callistemon today. I was wondering how successful I may be in layering this species of tree?
“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be like water, my friend.”
Regards, Sidd.

Re: Callistemon and air-layering?
I have done quite a few and usually all are successful and pretty quick too.
I did mine in winter and they only took 2 months or so. Used the plastic wrap Method

G' Day
This is one of the air layer on Callistemon I did Melbourne cup day and how it is today.
Even though it is due to remove on Australia day i hope to keep it another 2-3 weeks more. Because after care of my trees are minimum in my holiday period and also I feel it is too hot from previous experience. Any suggestions are welcome.

If it has roots enough to support it then take off now so the roots will sharden off before winter

Re: Callistemon and air-layering?
Most layers can survive with relatively few roots and Callistemon is no exception. I find that Callistemon actually prefer to be repotted in summer so don't worry too much about the temps, just keep the water up afterwards.
