Trouble with a Scarlet Flame
Hi, everyone. I need an advice . Got myself Scarlet Flame from Flower Power a few months ago. He is an older tree with a beautiful bark . I chopped the trunk and he is shooting very well. Keep him in a tray with o bit of water. Today noticed he lost a patch of bark at the base. This patch is about 5 cent coin size. Hate to loose him. Can I save him?

Hi, Beano,
Thank you for your reply. I have trouble to upload the photo. I've never done it before. The system said the file was too big.

Ahhh yes you have to resize it to be less than 1MB. Are you using your phone for the photo? Or computer?
If you’re using an iPhone camera you can download a free image resizing app. I just got one now called “Resizer”. Usually a size less than 1000 pixels is less than 1MB but you may have to reduce it further depending on your camera resolution and the detail in the image. You can also use an app called tapatalk to post on this forum and upload images. There’s no MB limit for image size on tapatalk because the picture is hosted on a third party server, but I find that the web version of the forum will not correctly display a tapatalk hosted image that is larger than 800 pixels and will cut the edge off. This will limit the amount of useful responses you will get.

Trouble with a Scarlet Flame
Good try! It’s unfortunately too small now, can’t see detail. It’s only 10kb file size now. Sorry I’m not very good st explaining. I think there is a thread on this forum explaining how to do it.
Edit - here is link [FAQ]Photos are too big??? Read this and resize your photos!

Re: Trouble with a Scarlet Flame
Hi everyone. It is an unusual download. I've done it through Microsoft Word. If anyone would like to have a look at my poor sick bottle brush and give me advise how nto help poor thing, just click on the the attachment icon. I cropped the picture in Word document format and this is a result. All my attempts to use Photo Resizer failed since I could't download or better to say find that new sized photo.

Re: Trouble with a Scarlet Flame
Hi Mila,
I've had a look at your photo and I don't think you need to worry. It looks like just the outside bark has come off and that's normal. You can check by scraping the area lightly. If the bark is soft and spongy or like jelly you may have a problem. Usually the live part is under the old, dead outer bark and you should find healthy, firm bark which will probably be white. If you scratch far enough you will reach a green layer where the cambium is near the wood.
You should be able to take the tree out of the water tray as the weather starts to cool down a bit. Letting it get slightly dry between watering will reduce the chance of fungal infection.

Re: Trouble with a Scarlet Flame
you resized the image too small. it is only 19Kb in size.
resize images to 800x600 which as a good compromize and will give a file size around 200KB in size.
Ken
ps, as you pasted it into a word doc then posted it sucessfully, I assume you are using a PC? then download and install image reziser as described in this wiki article

Re: Trouble with a Scarlet Flame
A simple PC program is "Image Resizer for Windows" from Brice Lambson.
Once installed, just right click on any image & resize.
