I thought I had posted about this tree before but I couldn't find it, but it could have been in the "dig" section.
Anyway I dug this in a country garden in 2018 or 2019 on 31 January and it was hot, very hot but this survived no problem. It had to be removed as there was a new road going into the shearing shed and this was in the way - bonus for Watto.
It has changed a bit over the years and it is now time to put it in its first bonsai pot. The design is a water swept look (Shibui had one that I really admired) and I recently completed making the pot for it. It is a bit of a thrill to make a pot specifically for a tree.
Anyway, enough bull dust, here is the tree and pot. More updates as it progresses.

Re: Callistemon Kings Park Special
Time for an update.
I checked my records and it was dug in 2019 and what I did find is that these grow prolifically, and are tough. All good attributes for bonsai.
First a photo a few months after it was dug.

I forgot to mention that it also flowers very well and you get a good display, for me usually around November each year.

Re: Callistemon Kings Park Special
We had the local bonsai society meeting last weekend and I gave this a trim and tidy up and I think its starting to looks OK. Only another five years or so of development to see if it will make a reasonable bonsai, BUT I like it.

Re: Callistemon Kings Park Special
Thanks for the progression pics and info! That's a stunning pot, too!
I managed to knock off a Little John when repotting in December (I took off too much foliage after flowering - repotting simultaneously was a bad move), but I didn't like it very much anyway: it seemed to have a straight growth habit and always just looked like a bunch of pencils glued together.
I'll be on the hunt for a Kings Park now!
