I was at the Botanical Gardens for the native plant sale this morning and run into an Allocasuarina Inophloia.

I've never seen one til today. Its bark is really interesting. Anyone developing any as Bonsai? I have seen a couple posts here but they are pretty old now. Keen to see anything recently

I tried a couple of times because of the magnificent shaggy bark but they did not survive very long in pots.
That tree has been at the botanic gardens for a good many years but they don't seem to last very long in the garden down here either.

Thanks for the info. Pitty as the bark is amazingly awesome. I haven't been able to locate any seedlings anyway so might just shelve this species for now.

I believe the species is pretty rare so no doubt hard to get hold of.
Tat tree at the gardens usually has cones. Some might just fall into your pocket or you could try talking to someone there to get some authorised seed from it. Maybe Friends of the Botanic gardens will be able to help with either seed or seedlings?
I'd also try Canberra Australian Plants Society. They usually have a great range of rare and unusual species at their sale days so someone may already be growing some.

I discovered the tree when i was at their sales day last weekend. Picked up a bunch of Callitris endlicheri. They always have something different. Best one i found was the Callitris oblonga. Never seen it since anywhere. Should have brought more lol.

I might ask someone about the seed. Thanks
