Kunzea in Flower

Post by Watto »

I am pretty sure this is a Kunzea ericifolia that I have had for a couple of years and this year it has flowered quite well. After it is finished with its display I will give it a good trim and shaping to set its path for next year. It will be a Shohin that I hope will be part of my planned seven point Australian native shohin display. It has flowered across the whole plant, and that is pleasing.

Kunzea are a fantastic bonsai species!
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Pretty in bloom!

Are you planning on making your seven point display work for different seasons? I can't even imagine trying to line everything up so it's at its best for a particular date....think my head is going to explode!

Really looking forward to seeing the results when you've got it ready to display. :)

Very nice tree Watto, I found one in my backyard earlier this year, growing it in a seed tray at the moment, maybe time to have a look at it. Do they shoot back after hard pruning? It has sent out a few shoots lower down recently cheers Tim

This is nursery stock and I bought it as it had a bit of trunk movement. I haven't cut back below some foliage so I don't really know if it would shoot back on old wood - yet. A good trim after the flowers have finished should be an indicator.
I will be happy to have the seven point display at any time of the year Mel and I have a few shohin that I am working on to enable that to happen.
