My foray into natives-starter

So I saw these in the reduced to clear section of my local flower power and thought why not, give me a little practice and some trial and error into natives.

2. Grevillea mccutcheoni had nice small flowers and unusual leaves.

Now to recover from my abuse...some ppl shouldn't be allowed bonsai tools-but I figured they were cheap enough that if they don't survive then no loss, and if they do survive then hopefully one day they will at least look decent.
Keen too hear the good, bad and ugly.

Hi there

Even though you have given the lepto a hard cut, i wouldnt hesistate repotting that into an open/coarse bonsai mix into a shallow pot buy a pair of tin snips and cut the plastic pot it was in to a shallow depth. I would also pierce the root ball with a thin skewer to allow the roots to breathe, this will ensure that you will encourage the growth of microrhizazaaa (spelling?) You can reduce the roots to at least 1/3 i have probably done harsher root reduction. Look at me talking like an expert lol!!! Since i am not i can only talk from experience,

Hi Isitangus,

Just wondering how you ever ended up going with the leptospermum Wiri Adriene?

I picked one up from the green shed today.

Just wondering how they take hard chopping, do they backbud on old wood? How do they go with roots being cut?

All the usual bonsai queries.

My guess is the Grevillea promptly died, but i'ld be interested to see if the Lepto made it. Pretty hard cut for a pot bound nursery stock Lepto!
