Dry!!???

In this recent weather......
Sand under it looks a little dry to me and the vertical roots look dead :-(
I assumed it was an older fallen tree.

Ps there is one up the road from home that i need to get a pic of too. it is a bit more sumo styled than this one tho

Yeah, old tree, it must have fallen during the recent rains/winds. It was very dry & sandy around the root base. I might actually head back tomorrow & cut off a few branches - anyone had success sanding them up & coating them in varnish? - they have nice bark these trees.

Thanks
Kane

Hello Kane,

I'd be looking for ripe seed pods as it is a nice coloured trunk.

If you have a chain saw you should be able to cut yourself some timber slabs for exhibiting your trees on.
Cheers

That was the plan, but...... no chainsaw. I wonder if I can call the council & meet a crew there?

In periods of extensive rain fallen eucalypts have the potential to re-establish a root hold & form new shoots along the now horizontal trunk to become a natural raft :aussie: style :worship:

Hi Ken, do you know the old saying "never assume, it makes an ....", I try to live by it as there is always more to know that presented in any given situation.

Would love to see pics of your local sumo style Euc, it is a topic regularly discussed between a group of us with most putting forward the assertion that it is the only bonsai style not seen naturally in Eucs, I differ with my friends so it would be great to show them :)
