Hi everyone
Was hoping somebody could tell me when the best time was to collect lepto laevigatum seed, I've seen alot of green seed capsules on some wild trees. To get to these trees I have to travel quite far , so can't just keep checking on them. Thanks for any help

Once they turn woody they can be collected and placed in a paper bag and should release seed in a course or of days. Not sure if they are green wether the seed is ripe. They should hang on the tree for some time so the window to collect won't be too small

They drop seeds when the capsule is ripe so you need to get them at the right time. Usually mid to late summer.

If you don't think you can get back to collect at optimum ripeness you should try some green pods. In many plants the seed is mature enough to germinate long before the pods are completely ripe so always worth a try. In some species like acacia the last thing to mature is the hard seed coat so green wattle seed will germinate without the usual scarification however they don't store too well so try to sow immature seed as soon as possible after collecting (within a few weeks?)

Thanks for the advice folks, I can get back to those trees in about 2-3 months which should give them some more time to ripen and then I'll try your method Shibui and I'll try ask the owner if he doesn't mind collecting some for me mid summer and sow them then . I'll report back on the outcomes
